What about those who book it straight away from the local boozer, when you pull up they'll come to the door and say 5 minutes I'm just finishing my pint off? I wave at them when I'm pulling away.

Correct, if they booked it for ASAP they're outside waiting and not drinking their ale they've just ordered.

If a punter aknowledges you then surely most of us would then simply put the meter on, most customers accept this as the norm, on the odd occasion they complain then simply wear it and restart the meter, punters in boozers who phone a cab thinking it could take 10 or so minutes and then the cab turns up in 2 minutes, is finishing their drink really too much for some cabbies to wait, it's all about reliability and service, waiting an extra couple of minutes ain't going to bankrupt anyone.

We are not allowed to put the meter on until the punter is in the car. If you wait 10 minutes for that customer you will probably be 10 minutes late for the next one. Where is your reliability then? if the customer orders the taxi for "now" then they should be ready to get in the car when you arrive. If you always wait for them then they will expect you to always wait. If you leave after a couple of minutes, they will soon learn to be ready.

last night I had a booking on 1 A.M. to very isolated area bowt 7 miles from town to take them back to town outskirts, quite good job £12 but I was 5 mins late cos dispatcher was waiting probably for some job going to that area and it happened, I dropped off quite close but as I said I was 5 mins late just to hear that punters couldn't wait and they're gone already... gone? where and how? there's one road leading to them and I didn'd see anyone driving or walking from there.... they didn't even bother to make a call to cancel that booking to save me dead mileage... classic pi55 take... luckily I did little point-to-point in there to cover that speeding and time waste...

Up here meter goes on when punter aknowledges you, we don't get follow on jobs before uplifting current job, FOJ is activated 5 mins before drop off, tend to find if you come and go with punters running late, they'll call you again and again, it's not about us it's about the customer, if I pull off after 5 mins knowing the punter is there but running late, they're more likely to phone the competition next time.

It's all down to the attitude of the driver, those like me tend to earn more coming and going and covering work, even if the job is running late.

If the customer is late on a regular basis I would prefer it if they did use someone else.

it's the age old saying patience is a virtue

customers often don't see you or rely on a phone call or text to tell them your there I usually get out of my car and knock the door works 9 times out of 10 as I resent wasting fuel pulling off a job I'd sooner wait a couple more minutes than 10 minutes driving to another job or the rank. In my experience 70 to 80 percent of NPU's are down to impatient drivers

not a hope in hell

even when there are 3 jobs on the screen in that area ?? fook off man    you seem quite silly for a taxi driver tbh

No chance, if they've kept me waiting then why should I lose out?

If they are told the taxi will be around 10 minutes and it turns up in around 3-4 minutes then surely that's a bonus for the passenger.

If customers realised that a taxi won't wait around for them to get into the car some of them might start getting their árses into gear.
