Diesel is a waste product of refining petrol so should be much cheaper.

a thread without the need to click a link (save for checking authenticity) is a lot f*cking easier than this easy a** way - otherwise whats the point of TDO?

Realy? I thought that petrol or gasoline was originally a byproduct of refining kerosene or paraffin as it is known here.

No it isn't most modern day diesel is a blend of some straight run ditillate and a lot of hydrocracked and alkylated product which gives a more consistent and chemically stable product especially as crude oil is widely varying in its constituent chemicals. Uk refineries are set up to produce petrol and some diesel and kerosine so most of our diesel is imported from areas like Saudi Arabia or Russia where investment in the right refinery components for diesel production has been made

So you agree that it isn't a waste product.

No diesel comes after the petrol in the refining process which means it's a waste product of refining petrol.

Iran produce billions of gallons of oil as do Saudi Arabia. The prices won't go up.

the reason prices are so low is that opec has lost control of the market due to American Shale gas production which produces loads of crude and ethane as well. They can't store it so it is getting dumped on the market bringing down world prices for fuel plastics and fertilizer so as long as the American fracking business is booming and there is loads of it prices could be kept down for 100 years although i would imagine American producers wanting to scale down production to get prices up a bit at some point

How does that make it a waste product?
