Uber driver suspended after lesbian couple thrown out of his taxi for kissing

The company says the driver will not be allowed to work until an investigation is carried out.

Uber has suspended a driver in London who allegedly threw a lesbian couple out of his car for kissing.

The incident began when one of the women tweeted Uber about a "disgusting aggressive driver" who "did not allow" her to kiss her girlfriend. "[He] then proceeded to pull his cab over and ask us to get out when we refused to comply," she said.

In a statement, Uber - who changed the colours of the cars in its app to celebrate Pride month - confirmed the driver had been suspended and said it "celebrates diversity and does not tolerate any form of discrimination whatsoever".

A spokesperson said: "Uber prides itself on providing the highest quality, safest and most convenient service, so we take any incident where we fall short very seriously.

"We have been in contact with this rider to offer our full support and find out exactly what happened."

It's not the first time same-sex couples have been discriminated against by taxi drivers.

Investigations are still ongoing following the news last year that two couples in London and a couple in Chicago were allegedly kicked out of Uber cars for kissing, and an April, a New York cab driver was ordered to pay $10,000 in damages after he called a lesbian couple "bitches, [edited by admin] and Lady of the Night" for kissing and told them to "keep that [behaviour] in the bedroom or get out of the cab".

What if it were a man and a woman? To my mind it wouldn't matter what the gender was, If I thought that any couple were going beyond what I would consider to be proper public behaviour I would insist that they stop until they get to their destination.

Absolutely.

We all know how it starts! I.e a copper draws up alongside and a couple are having full blown sex (forget the blow bit).....I wonder as to who will get the blame for not stopping it?

I'm sure we discussed either this or a very similar incident before. I am wondering whether Uber are trying to keep any and all stories about them circulating in order to maximise their publicity

man & woman wouldn't bother me ( remember they were only kissing!) as for the gender , i would find 2 blokes kissing repulsive, that's just me though . don't give a flying fook about the "politically correct brigade" either, i just find it wrong & would turn my stomach tbh
