Evaluation of the vitamin D status and it’s determinants of older adults who reside in Scotland.’
Vitamin D deficiency has been identified as a risk factor in the development of chronic diseases. The majority of vitamin D intake comes from sunlight exposure, with diet also serving as a primary source. However, in Scotland sunlight exposure is low and vitamin D consumption through the diet is poor. Therefore, people residing in Scotland tend to be vitamin D deficient and thus at risk of cardiovascular and metabolic health issues. For this research study there are only 2 visits to the sport and exercise science labs at Edinburgh Napier University Sighthill Campus. Participants must be male or female and 60-80 years old.
Visit 1 will be consent forms and a health questionnaire, then I will issue you with a wrist worn accelerometer, like a pedometer, which you will wear for 7 days. Visit 2 (8-10 days later) will be a couple of questionnaires and collection of a small blood sample.
