I think that you need to establish who (apparently) closed your account, (I assume that it was not you). Personally I would also request proof of cancellation - it is too easy an out for the company concerned to claim it was cancelled.
They are saying that the account was cancelled and reopened several times. Each time from a different email address but similar to mine. The really strange thing is that it seems like a lot of trouble to go to just to get £30.00. there is no other dodgy transactions on the account.
I guess that you are not as such worried about £30, probably more annoyed than anything that a scam has happened.
What they are saying/claiming - is not actually proof! You have probably not noticed........but I can be a bit argumentive

On the basis of that, and the fact that I would be fuming, I would be demanding proof of their claim. I would send the request/demand in the form of a letter, sent by recorded mail (recorded mail always makes them think, they will also take you more seriously).
The first step is to make them prove their claim (You want proof). Remember they have your hard earned money........that cannot be right.
