Taxi Driver Online

Hi folks this is my first post on here

I've read this forum and it seems geographically councils seem to dictate what ever they choose funny that eh !

The majority of taxis in my area are saloon cars and the council have restricted the taxi numbers by way of a supply demand survey however due to the lack of WAV's I'm considering making an application based on a tx1 I own

Has anyone elsewhere in Scotland or the UK came across a similar situation and been successful ?

Some fellas got plates in Edinburgh a while back, but that was on the basis of the council not having an up-to-date survey, not on a lack of WAVs.

Over the years many drivers have gained plates by being smart, but it's not easy and can often end with the applicant having a large legal bill and no plate.

If I was you I would get in contact with the local disability groups and gauge their views. If they think there are not enough WAVs then they could get behind your application, which would help.

So find out when the last survey was, read it, and contact the disability groups.

Keep away from solicitors for the time being.

West Dunbartonshire split into two zones, Clydebank 100% WAV and Dumbarton <10% WAV

Well D-day happened today I was invited to the regulation and licensing board to put my case forward .

They knocked it back

However I played the disabled card (a total valid argument license granted or not ) and given West fife only have 17 WAV vehicles and no policy to comply to have more WAV'S I say they are in a bad position.

5 councilors voted yes to a grant and 5 voted no and the chair had the casting vote ..

Should I take em to appeal ?
Or hound them something chronic to change policy's?

Tricky one.

I will always suggest the legal route is the last route, so please don't go that route at present.

I like the hounding route, and sending those 5 nay sayers every newpaper clip or internet link of customers complaining about WAV service will help.

Or wait till those councillors are changed either naturally or by an election.

But you have done well so far IMO.
