Yesterday Eric [winkle] Brown died aged 96 without doubt the greatest pilot ever he flew more types than any other pilot and was without doubt a MAN
He wrote some excellent books about his extraordinary like "Wings on my sleeve" and Wings of the Luftwaffe where he recounts his experiences testing what he regarded as the finest aircraft of their time the ME262 jet and Arado 234 blitz jet both of which were 100 miles an hour faster than any Allied Jet of the time. he also tested the He162 jet which was the first aircraft ever to have an ejector seat and was partially of wooden construction [like our Mosquito]and regarded as very dangerous although he praised it!
He also flew against orders the Me 163 rocket fighter which was exceedingly dangerous but very fast and landed on a skid.
If your interested in Aircraft this guys books and Videos on you Tube are unmissable.
I doubt if politically we would have agreed on much but for sure this MAN was a MAN brave skillful and committed.
rip WINKLE
