I average about one non payer a year. I do nothing about it over than put it down to occupational hazard. If I start calling police etc it will cost me more in lost time than any fare I'm likely to recover.

A driver here arrived at the destination to find that the punter had no money. He didn't lock the doors but just drove the customer back to where he picked them up. He was hauled before the Council and given penalty points on his Council license.

I will never get my head around that one. In essence the customer has committed a criminal offense!

To take this scenario to an extreme but nevertheless possibility, would they have done the same if the passenger was a criminal fleeing from the scene - and the driver took him/her back to the beginning of the crime scene?

Do they realise that they are condoning criminality over a driver trying to earn his/her living?

Ahhhh, I remember the good old days when if you had someone refusing to pay or giving you grief a quick shout on the radio and you had 50 cabbies with you in less than a minute to back you up. If they went in a house you didn't bother with the police, a brick through the window at 4am or paint stripper on their car usually made them think twice about shafting a cabbie.

A bottle of full fat milk through the letterbox usually has them looking round for that fowl smell for well over a week.

In some cases just swallow it, and remember the punters and their addresses for the police the following day.

CCTV will help.

By drivers raising the anti they are taking chances over what might amount to only a tenner or so.

Whilst it might seem the cowards way out, and might increase non payers, it's better than losing your livelihood over maybe one hours work.

Is it worth that?

Indeed, but they don't necessary get away with it if they don't pay on the day.

There are plenty more days to deal with it.

What's best when dealing with pi**ed girls and lads? On the night or the following day when they have sobered up?

Get the police involved.
