The only way for a government to intervene is with money. Now how much should the tax payer have to pay to support these unsustainable industries. If the steel plants are given money to produce steel that costs more than it can be bought elsewhere, who is going to buy it?
They can only buy it cheaper from elsewhere because the labour force are being paid slave wages in the likes of China - the government are complicit in supporting countries that pay as little as possible. The warning signs are all around us that cheap is failing i.e the rich/poor divide is getting larger by the day, quality jobs have disappeared by the millons, the country has never been in so much peace time debt, real unrmployment is consistently rising etc etc + of course the 8 years of financial suppression that we are stuck in............that is what cheap does for you/I.
It would seem that people are being fed copius amounts of BS that cheap is good, and to hell with the poor sods who are on the sharp end of the stick. You only have to look at anywhere i.e pubs/eating places etc that promote cheap - the standards go down and down, in turn dragging the dregs of society in through the doors. Cheap is not good in the long run, as greed dictates further down the line from the bosses.........we want more! It is not a sustainable practice and has to bottom out.
As already pointed out by others we have to have our own Steel making plants, it is a security necessity i.e if war broke out........who the heck is going to supply us Or I'm sorry there is a 3 month waiting list - I dont think so.
