"Without good reason"

Yep, he is a limo driver. What good reason would a limo driver taking some ladies to the tennis have for carrying an illegal knife. He carried the knife for cutting off wedding ribbons. He didn't have wedding ribbons on the car so there was no good reason.

If this limo driver is such a good guy why was he stopped by the police in the first place and vehicle searched?

As I stated earlier, It was at a time when there was a lot of intelligence that a limo was going to be used for terrorism. A lot of limos were stopped and searched at that time.

Maybe he needed it to cut the bread for their prawn sarnies. A knife has many uses and any solicitor worth his salt could come up with one.

You don't seem to get it at all. It may be a good reason to carry a knife to cut the prawn sarnies but it is not a good reason to carry an illegal knife.

surely a night in the cells is more likely to lose you your badge ?

I suspect they only offer cautions when they know they don't have enough to make charges stick.

The Police can only offer a caution when two specific conditions are complied with:-

1 A decision-maker may only decide that a simple caution is appropriate if satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to provide a realistic
prospect of conviction in respect of the offence if the offender were to be prosecuted.

2 A simple caution must not be offered to a person who has not made a clear and reliable admission to committing the offence. (If a
person admits guilt but also raises a defence, a simple caution cannot be offered.)

Why should it? Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

Do you expect that after a night in the cells they would release a person without charge?

We pick up people every morning, particularly on weekends that are released without charge.

Happens all the time.

The point is accept the caution and it's game over, don't and the fight goes on.

Just out of interest, how many times have you been pulled for something and been offered a caution but chosen to have your day in court?

So if you caught pi**ing in the steet when drunk, is it better to take the caution or fixed penalty, or pay to get legal advice and go to court?

The latter depending on your income and how much the legal advice costs could be best part of a £1,000.

Only a fool would reject that caution, and only a bigger fool would suggest he did reject that caution.
