I am not blinkered to think that there will not be problems. Putting that into perspective I firmly believe that openly trading with another 150 + other countries can only be beneficial to us and this country. We managed very well with passport/border controls for decades, so why should it be a problem when in return it will keep us and our families safer. Nothing is fool proof on that score, however it will be safer than the open door policy that is being pursued.

Just to give you an insight as to what is around the corner! Back a few years ago my wife and I went to see a show in London. As you do, we went up to Regent St, and other main streets in London. I can honestly say that if you took away the obvious landmarks, then you would not have been able to guess as to what part of the world that you were in - it was 97%+ foreign. Now before anyone gets on the bandwagon and calls me a racist - just hold on! My take is this; I was born and raised in this country, a country that had very few rapes per year, and 12/13 murders per year, (yes per year), so I know what this country and its people are capable of. Admittedly it has become a lot worse on our own account, but it will get totally out of control (as we have already seen in Sweden and Germany) if we have an open door policy - if we have an open door policy, you too in effect will end up living in a foreign country/neighbourhood. If I wanted that type of living envoironment then I would move to those countries that already have it - I do not want it forced upon me or my family.

The elite are not doing this for your or my benefit.......make no mistake about that.

Please point me in the direction of this statistic? Are you talking about the UK, England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland? And what years are you stating that the murder rate was 12/13?

I was 10 years old at the time (1957), a poignant time for me. A young woman (32 years old) was murdered not far from a wooded area that we used to play in as children (never solved). As a child I used to go to Saturday morning cinema, at the kiosk a poster was up with some notification/asking information about the crime etc. Also bear in mind that the death penalty was still around at that time and very much a talking point.

Surprisingly for me, is that the statistics for that moment in time are not easily (for me anyway) readable, or available as I thought that they might be. However I have done a bit of trawling and have come up with some stats that might give you an indication that I am not too far off of my claim.

Before I put on here the stats that I found, I have to say that some that I came across showed a lot higher, but are nevertheless a lot lower than today's rates. From what I can glean from some stats is that Murder/manslaughter/alternative deaths i.e say road accidents may have been lumped together, therefore not giving a true picture. The law since then has moved on making the charge more precise prior going to court.

The Stats that I came across......RESEARCH PAPER 99/56
27 MAY 1999

I tried to download the stats onto here - it would not have it. The link is below go to page (23) 1957. As an aside I did not just pluck 1957 out, it was a year that stuck in my mind.

These are the stats that I found.
Both yours and mine state 321 murders in 1957.

I also came across those stats, and being somewhat older than yourself remembered that they were nothing like that scale whatsoever. From what I can find as mentioned in my post prior to yours, is that they did not differentiate the stats at that time between murder and say manslaughter i.e they were all lumped together.

At the foot of your stats (article below) it says more or less what I have indicated.

Quote:
In 1967 the government changed the way crimes were recorded. Some originally recorded as homicide were no longer counted as homicide, these include deaths caused by the IRA, which were moved from murder to acts of terrorism. for example, and those reclassified as manslaughter.

As mentioned in a previous post the death penalty was still around at that time - it had a very calming effect in a time of madness/loss of temper.

Regardless of the stats Britain was a much safer place then than what it is now - let the criminals in.....it will get much, much worse. Unfortunately this referendum seems to have turned into a "Money" Or "Quality of life situation"......I know what I am going for, as late as it is.

P.S. My stats show 13 murders for 1957.

Hang on a minute, we have both checked out the official statistics from different sources and they both state that in 1957 there were 321 murders but somehow you know that this is wrong and it was just 12/13.

It was so good when we weren't in the EU, there wasn't any strikes, we built the best cars in the world, the country was booming.

Gandad knowing full well as to how much you are a selective reader, I went to the trouble of (1) Finding a government statistical document/stats (not the mickey mouse one that you found), and then (2) I actually numbered the page for you to go to that shows (13) murders. (3) I then took the trouble to explain to you that (violent deaths) (not necessarily murder) were lumped together, hence the reason for the exaggerated murder stats for that period.

Be good.....read it properly.

The irony was.....the National debt was nowhere near as to what it is now - and people had good jobs with plenty of money. I mentioned in a previous post some time back, that the Unions were/are an evil necessity, in order to be a credible opposition to government policies. In many respects and for all of the strikes.......it worked.

P.S. The cars were crap.....I worked at the time in the Car industry putting rusted parts (exhausts) on the car before they left the factory

Those rose tinted spectacles need to be replaced with proper glasses. Do you really believe that the standard of living was better in the 50s and 60s?

I was being ironic - Britain was awful before the EU, yet people are trying to make out it was like a land of milk and honey

It would not have been the 50s as the war effect was still raw, having said that there was plenty of work around in the building/manufacturing industry.

It would have been more like the late 60s and into the 80s.....we could all afford to buy new houses in those days, I could afford a new car, we had savings, we were out every Fri/Sat night until the early hours.....and I could walk into another job tomorrow - can the youngsters do all of that today?

Perhaps you can point out as to how we as the working population have benefited by being in! I am still waiting for the other lie to materialise - North Sea gas will be cheaper for all of us.....your bills will be lower

They are pulling our chain all of the time - the rich/poor divide tells you that.

P.S. Every gas appliance in the country was altered to accommodate North Sea gas - and now we have the highest energy costs in the EU #-o

Some one has a poor memory, not many people could afford to buy new houses in the 60/70/80s, that was the period of the highest mortgage interest rates ever, many people suffered the blight of repossession in this period.

I'm not old enough to tell you what working outside of the EU was ever like.

However, I do know that all the screw ups to befall the British were caused by the British - not the EU.

The EU wasn't responsible for North Sea oil or gas.

The EU wasn't responsible for British Car makers failing.

The EU wasn't responsible for Coal mines closing.

The EU isn't responsible for the Steel.

The EU isn't responsible for UK foreign policy.

The EU isn't responsible for corrupt politicians and companies hiding their money away in tax havens.

If you want to know who is responsible - its those good old UK politicians - some of whom want to leave the EU and some who want to remain - personally I think you'll get screwed over whichever gang your in.
