so the pluses or neg of being a hack or p/h? mine are

HACK:
the fares come to you - +

not hanging about waiting outside someone's house for 10 mins on a booking -+

no office rent -+

come & go as you please -+

no stupid dress codes ( i dress smartly anyway, my normal attire is , t shirt, black/blue 501`s, black dm shoes, so about £200 worth of kit) -+

don't get "disabled " for 24 hours because you recover jobs (obviously might not happen at your office) -+

pick up who you want -+

no set fares (massive) +

no interaction with the "office" telling you what to do -+

fares much better hacking -+

P/H:
more work through the week/ days -+

made to pick up or you will be disabled (once again , might not happen at your office) - -

forced to wear company shirts ( although the last office i worked at only gave you 1 , you had to buy the rest & they were £8 to buy but the office charged you £12 , most didn't & looked like right tramps , nothing worse than a white shirt that isn't white, i change mine daily) - -

paying rent , ffs £500 per month is a fooking mortgage!!!!! - -

FEEDING!!! ----

sitting on a booking due out in 15 mins , waiting for 10 mins then get a chit job & the booking comes on the datahead!!

It depends on your locality/population. It worked for me as an independent hack in Cardiff for eleven years. If you are disciplined (taxi wise) it is perfect - I did not miss paying any bills during that time.......It worked for me. If you are from a small town/village it is a different ball game.

your business model is that of an independent hack, who feels paying base rent is not for him, if he is happy with that fair enough, we have 20 cars on one base, 15 on another and about 10 "indies"....all hacks

we have very few PH not on hacks, mainly out in the villages happy with booked local work

i agree with you mate, tbh there are quite a lot of hacks that work the office also, i suppose it depends on what you need to earn, i have my school runs to cover pretty much everything tbh ( not my own but do it in a mini bus so no fuel/ upkeep ) & just do a fri/sat on the hack, if i didn't have a school run , i would probably get my own& do it in the dobbie, although there are a few bus companies around here who love a "pair" working for them ( me driver, wife escort), have offers now but staying where i am for the meantime , don't think i would work for a office again tbh

i have a school run inc wife as passenger assistant (escort is so not PC), she almost doubles the income off it cos i overcharged em....
