Pepper spray taxi driver was 'doomsday prepper'

A man who collected weapons and bought canisters of pepper spray online was "preparing to survive doomsday scenarios", a court heard.

Sajjad Younis Khan, was described at Birmingham Magistrates' Court as a "weapons enthusiast and survivalist".

The 40-year-old taxi driver admitted possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious substance but said he had no intention of using it on others.

He also surrendered to police machetes and illegally held knives.

Khan was initially arrested under anti-terror laws and admitted to officers he was a weapons collector.

He had sprayed one of the four canisters of illegal pepper spray to test his own pain threshold, the court was told.

Prosecutor Amy Davies said Khan was a "prepper" which she defined it as "someone preparing to survive doomsday scenarios".

Mitigatin, Aftab Zaroor, said the defendant was held in custody for seven days and "made full and frank admissions" that he purchased the substance but was unaware it was illegal.

Khan, of Whitmore Road, Small Heath - who has previous convictions for robbery and wounding dating back to 1994 - was released on conditional bail and will be sentenced on 6 June.

It's a common misconception that the the human rights legislation is connected to EU membership but they are separate entities.
I agree the human rights legislation we have is not fit for purpose but I would like a good look at its potential replacement before I chose to get rid of the existing protections we have especially any new bill of rights proposed by the shower of sh:t we have in power at the moment as I suspect how many rights you would have would be closely related to your wealth.

The Human Rights Act 1998 (the Act or the HRA) sets out the fundamental rights and freedoms that everyone in the UK is entitled to.

It incorporates the rights set out in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) into domestic British law. This means that if your human rights have been breached, you can take your case to a British court rather than having to seek justice from the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France.

The members of the European Council are the heads of state or government of the 28 EU member states, the European Council President and the President of the European Commission

So it is all part of the EU/EC no matter how they dress it up.

Pepper spray 'test' taxi driver given suspended sentence

A taxi driver who claimed to have used an illegal canister of pepper spray on himself to test his pain threshold has been handed a suspended jail term.

Fazal Sajjad Younis Khan pleaded guilty in May to possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious substance.

Prosecutors said Khan, 40, was a "prepper" which was "someone preparing to survive doomsday scenarios".

The private hire driver was given a six-week jail term suspended for a year by Birmingham magistrates.

Khan, of Whitmore Road, Small Heath, Birmingham, who was initially arrested under anti-terror laws, told officers he had bought four canisters of the spray online.

He was held in custody for seven days after the cans were found in a locked bedroom at his home.

The court heard last month he had previous convictions for robbery and wounding dating back to 1994.

Khan's solicitor Aftab Zahoor, told magistrates the defendant was unaware the canisters were illegal in the UK and there were "no warnings" about this when he bought them from a website.

"There is no evidence that he put anybody in fear or that he was participating in any form of violence," he said.

"At least two of these items were still in their packaging unopened and one item was used by the defendant upon himself."

Even without the previous convictions the man is clearly mad and shouldn't have been given a badge IMO
