We've no doubt all heard many things about D-Day but along side the bravery, determination and fear for pretty much everyone what strikes me again and again is the total brilliance of the planning and the thought that went into everything.
If anyone is interested here's a well written blog on the part of the logistics, Mulberry and Pluto.
http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/ship-to-s ... -landings/For Mulberry:
Work on the design began in 1941.
Production of the different elements begin December 1943, six months prior to D-Day.
Assembly on the beaches of Normandy began to arrive on the 9th June and trucks were rolling off ships by the 14th.
Amazing.
I know its only a film, but D-Day vets said the opening scenes from Saving Private Ryan was as close to real life as it could be.
I can't imagine the fear those poor blokes went through.

It`s been quite disappointing that D-Day has barely been mentioned on the news yesterday tbh
