some of the remote runs could involve up to 12 miles to pick up and 15 miles back empty, with little or no chance of a return booking.

Surely the best thing to do is to get those people in remote areas to write to the council. I cant see any reason why a council cannot set a flag fare for these circumstances.

Or perhaps an agreement can be made to engage the meter at a set point, perhaps a boundary, prior to pickup?

What is the bus service like?

The council will make things worse

"In a Taxi/Hackney, the maximum charge allowed is the meter rate shown from pickup to drop"

Send a PH or send no car if anyone gets clever

Well, surely if the residents of the remote area contact the council in the first instance then the council has to reply and tell them its hard luck.

The council would be made up of local Councillors, the every day people, who represent the people and if no solution is found then the fault is with the council. The ball is then firmly placed with the council by reversing the responsibility.

If there is no community bus to serve the remote areas then a cheaper solution is to open up talks with the trade which should be initiated by the council.

Its no different really to sending a trades person out to service a remote area who would more than likely charge extra.

We are constantly telling these people top complain to the council at the lack of service available to them, but they don't. There are no rural buses after about 18.00 every day and some villages only get a couple of buses a week. There are no private hire vehicles available that do ordinary work. They are all executive/airport cars.
