If we get a decent referee we should (based on our Russian performance) be alright. Imo most of the officiating in general has been diabolical. With all of this holding, grabbing and cynical fouling...... I would punish them retrospectively with an automatic one game ban, increased if it were severe/persistent.

must admit that there were two blatant penalties last night that the Italians got away with I was pleased to see Ireland score because I thought up to that point they had been wronged by the ref

I think the ref must have had a word at half time because there was nowhere near as much holding and pushing in the box in the second half.

well no surprises there another embarrassing defeat for England trying to pass the ball into the net against a very well organised defence and then brought Rashford on too late to make a difference well Hodgson has paid the price for being faithful to out of form players or players who haven't played enough this season shame we didn't get portugal we might have scored a goal or two against them

So question is who do we replace Hodgson with ? Is there anyone out there suitable ?

That was the problem from the off of the tournament - the tactics were totally wrong. As you say they wanted every chance to be (from what I could see) to be from the 12 yard line in, but that is down to management. Also to be playing two proven goal scorers 1. Sturridge out on the wing and 2. Kane taking free kicks and corners, is beyond me, what a waste - It is right that Hodgson resigned. Rooney got caught with the ball 5/6 times and got subbed at the end, I think his days are numbered unless they can find a role for him.

Another tournament of wasted talent- yes the talent is there.

Gareth Southgate being favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson as England manager is "scary", says Harry Redknapp.

But Redknapp said Southgate was only seen as a favourite for the job because he had won a "second-rate tournament" with England's Under-21s in Toulon.

"Why should he get it in front of Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce, who are proven managers?" asked the former QPR boss.

aww c'mon Big Sam manage England he isn't an experienced International/champions league manager Not so sure Steve Bruce has the tactical nouse either

I can never understand this insistence that you have to be a successful club manager to manage at International level the Germans don't go down that route

If the best man for the job is foreign then so be it. All this BS about he has got to be home grown does not quite cut it. I know that it has been tried and failed but I do not see a contender from these shores.
