Belfast mum praises hero taxi driver she says saved her tot's life

A young mum says a hero taxi driver saved her baby’s life after the infant stopped breathing. Stacey Corey was checking on her 14-week-old youngster Gerard Brian late on Thursday night when she realised her cherished son was turning blue.

The 25-year-old grabbed the tot and ran into the street begging for help. A passing taxi driver stopped and managed to open the baby’s airways, saving his young life. Mum-of-three Stacey’s family launched an online appeal to help find the Good Samaritan. And having been given his phone number she was today due to call the stranger who came to her aid in her darkest hour.

Stacey, from the Ormeau Road in South Belfast, told Belfast Live: “He is doing really well now. “We managed to find the guy which is brilliant and I’m going to be giving him a ring now. “I ran out of the house with Gerard Brian and he came to the front door to help us before the ambulance arrived.

“The hospital kept him in that night and let us out at about 5pm yesterday. “It seems it was caused by some infection and they managed to clear his airways. “The man got the wee boy’s breath back and we can’t thank him enough for helping us."
