I was tempted to head this thread Lincoln traffic system, but that would be too funny.

Anyhows, if any of you have the misfortune to visit Lincoln over the next eighteen months to two years, don't rely on your satnav to get you through my fair city. What with new roads that won't show on satnav, and old roads that will be closed from September 5th, it will be as much use as a chocolate fire guard, or even dare I say it, Anne Frank's drum kit. How to solve the problem of traffic queues at railway crossings? Close them permanently. Metered fares are rising by 15 to 20% locally without a fare increase. And the schools aren't back yet. It's a clusterfuck, if that isn't barred by admin, or omnishambles then. I feel like an East European or afghan whose just been given a badge, because I'm now not quite sure which is the best way to go (home)

good old network rail they wanted to close ALL of our local crossings forcing cars on long retours but when the funding for the 2 replacement bridges (replacing 7 levels crossings) fell through and agreement on the position of the bridges wasn't agreed it was dropped

looks like local opposition wasn't successful there although i believe you are getting a new bus station at an eye watering cost to ratepayers across the county

we've all got to pay for your swanky new bus station ! but at least you get to keep the roadworks up there

Which crossings are they the ones near the station?

Yes, the high street crossing is now closed to traffic, and the Brayford Wharf East crossing is now one way from The Ropewalk to Wigford Way. Other road closures come into force from 5th September. I predict chaos.

Work on a £30m transport hub in Lincoln has started, with disruption expected as a number of city centre car parks are set to close.
The scheme includes a bus station, 1,000-space multi-storey car park and footbridge.
The current bus station will close on Sunday, and a temporary one will open in Tentercroft Street.
Thornbridge and Sincil Street car parks will close on Tuesday, with the loss of several hundred places, officials said.
St Mary's Street car park will close over the weekend.

Kate Ellis from City of Lincoln Council said: "There will be disruption, and it will be painful."
She said anyone due to return to work or school in the next few days should check to see which routes were available.
Access to the train station would remain open, she added.
The work is expected to take about 18 months to complete.

Ah so that's why you want to retire to Dubai !

My bald mate has just come back from his annual trip to Dubai, and he loves it there.

However he said he was getting a bit miffed with some of the Russians there.

Best they are gone by Tuesday. (Although hopefully I will only be there two hours)

You should try it. You'll get change out of a five pound note when you buy you and her a drink.

Strangely, just had a week in the south visiting Chatham dockyards, Chartwell and Portsmouth, and I've never seen so many shut up shops and businesses. Beggars everywhere, including a few young women, which we rarely see in Lincolnshire.

You've got some interesting roads down there though, I think you call them motorways? Anyway, there were a lot of vehicles on them, and no tractors at all! Where do they go?

Are they on drugs? It will drive people away from the City Centre. Why can't they do work at night?
