Gun threat to Rugby taxi driver

Police are appealing for witnesses or information.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Rugby.

At about 9.30pm on Sunday a taxi driver collected two passengers outside Rugby railway station while driving a white Toyota Avensis estate.

The driver, a man in his 60s, was asked to go to York Street, Rugby.

When he arrived at the bottom of the road, the male passenger threatened the driver with what is described as a dark silver ‘old-style gun’, and demanded the driver’s wallet, phone and cash box.

Both passengers then ran off in the direction of the Round Gardens flats.

The taxi driver was not injured.

The male was white, aged 45 to 50, 6’ tall and of a skinny build with a light-coloured beard and glasses.

The other passenger, a woman, sat in the rear of the taxi and was white, 5’3” tall, aged around 35 and of a large build.

DC Stephen Mobbs from Rugby CID said: “This was an incredibly frightening incident for the victim and we would like to reassure the public that we are working hard to identify the individuals as soon as possible.” Anyone with any information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 413 of August 28, 2016.”Or call Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or their website.
