Seen the headline on the IOL website - sadly no further information - but if true - it'll make passing the taxi driving test (as per condition of application) a little tricky

Reducing waiting times: DVSA’s taxi driver assessments to end

Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency have released this bulletin today:

Reducing waiting times: DVSA’s taxi driver assessments to end

From 31 December 2016 DVSA will no longer be offering a taxi driver assessment service.

We are committed to reducing waiting times for car practical driving tests.

To help us to reduce these, we’ve reviewed all our services and have decided to stop offering taxi driver assessments from 31 December 2016.

We currently provide this service to local authorities. We have contacted them to suggest alternative providers, such as road safety charities or representative bodies of driving instructors.

I bet Mr Kaye is a little p*ssed off

DARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL V MALCOLM KAYE (2004)

[2004] EWHC 2836 (Admin)

The requirement by the local authority that the respondent pass a Driving Standards Agency taxi test before it would consider renewing his hackney carriage licence was not a condition attached to the grant of the licence but a request for information. It was reasonably necessary for the local authority to request such information in order to assess whether the respondent was a fit and proper person for a licence.

So basically all those DSA folk that went around all the local authorities encouraging them to adopt this DSA driving test for taxi drivers were broadly the equivalent of double glazing salesmen?

I'm still confused as to what is exactly the problem with testing cabbies.

We don't do those tests for free, and there isn't a backlog of ordinary tests anyway.

And if there was well employ more testers to meet demand.
