A MAN has been charged with assaulting a taxi driver and stealing the CCTV camera from his cab.

James Dunne, aged 46, allegedly attacked the man and made off with the machine worth £70, a court heard.

Dunne has pleaded not guilty to assault by beating and theft of the camera in Plymouth on the night of May 6.

He has also denied making off without payment of the £4.80 fare.

Dunne has finally pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police constable who came to investigate.

Dunne, of Hampton-in-Arden, Solihull in the West Midlands, was due to attend a hearing at Plymouth Crown Court.

But the court heard that he was too ill to attend.

Recorder Tim Rose adjourned sentence until Monday October 3.
