Has anyone had experience of being hit my an uninsured driver who runs off and is untraceable.

Someone smashed into me they lost it on a corner at a fast speed and hit me at front/side on.
Looking at it ,it may be a right off.
I am fully comp but will probably loose my full no claims .

having problems loading photo.

You shouldn't lose all your no claims, maybe just two years of it.

Did the driver drive off or did he run from the scene?

Poxy situation for you.

They fled the scene, left the car inbedded in mine with me trapped inside.
Cops said car was uninsured and the previous owner had sold it a couple of weeks back.
Cops are going to interview him, they took away the car for forensics .

Clear5ly you have the make, model and registration details of the car so you should be alright for your no claims.

Not necessarily if the other vehicle had been sold and the new owners didn't bother insuring and taxing it then you have no option but to claim against your own insurance and if it is a big claim as this will be then his no claims or at least 2 years worth are out the window

As for the toe rag that hit him it might well be possible to trace them even if it isn't the bloke who claimed to have sold the car  but all they can do is prosecute over the accident and lack of insurance

This is what the MIB is for. If the accident can be proven to be the fault of the uninsured driver then you shouldn't be penalised for the claim and the MIB should cover the cost of your repairs.

one of my colegues had exactly the same few years back and his car was written off so he bought new one and went to his broker just to hear "sorry, mate but your premium gone up coz there's case in court and you're involved in an accident". doesn't matter it was proven by police that it wasn't his fault. he's checked other brokers and everywhere answer was "sorry, mate...". as we've good so called boss, he registered that car as a company car and insured it on his name then driver coul "rent" that car of him and repay insurance cost... case in court lasted over two years to clear...

about 4 years ago my premium went up by £1000 after my wing mirror was taken out by a camper van over on my side of the road. I was told by my insurance it would be a 50:50 case so paid for my damage myself about £65 his was only slight but he put a claim in and then withdrew it but only after my renewal date so lost my no claims and had to change insurance to get a more reasonable rate still about £700 more than i would have paid

The thing is it doesn't matter whose fault the accident was until it is classed as a SETTLED claim by your insurer it counts against you

2010 a truck to my left, in a left exit only lane on Wall island (A5) scrapped my rear wheel arch by wandering over the white line...

the firms boss said the driver on an island has no requirement to indicate (why would he indicate??)

so i paid £350 cash for repair but reported it to my insurers

THEN, the firm made a claim against ME....my NCB was frozen right at renewal so i had to pay £2200

7 months later after i had counterclaimed they backed down and i got a £750 cheque back off the insurers

the haulage firm has 40 trucks, work out his fuel and wages bill..........but he wouldnt pay my £350 repairs?

Local firm started out as demolition site stuff tippers (like the 1 that hit me) the passenger in the cab was gonna be the witness against me, like you can see the drivers side front bumper corner from a truck passenger seat

couldnt be classed as independent thankfully

Well the insurance have been on the phone ,they said it is a right off .
£15,000 worth of damage . They have have offered me £5,900 less excess =£5,562.

My car was a Mondeo 12 plate with 77,000 miles ,does this seem a fair settlement ?
