Plymouth taxi driver denies threatening to 'slit throat' of fellow cabbie in city centre argument

A Plymouth taxi driver is to stand trial accused of threatening to "slit the throat" of a fellow cabbie and burn his car during a heated city centre exchange.

William Dean, of The Heathers, Woolwell, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court charged with one count of assault by beating, one count of racially aggravated harassment, one count of threatening behaviour, one count of harassment and a further count of racially aggravated common assault.

The alleged offences took place in the city centre between May 5 and 6 during an argument with taxi driver Christian Panaete.

During the exchange, the defendant is said to have made "throat slitting" gestures and threatened to burn Mr Panaete's taxi.

The 53-year-old's case will now be heard at Plymouth Crown Court

The case was sent by District Judge Diane Baker to Plymouth Crown Court.

Dean was granted conditional bail until a preliminary hearing at the court on November 14.
