Guildford female driver-only taxi service launched to provide 'reassuring' service for passengers

A female driver-only taxi company has been set up in Guildford to provide a ‘reassuring’ service.

Friends Angela Manrique and Kim Lamport founded Ladies2Drive around three weeks ago, after coming up with the idea more than a year ago.

The pair have been self-employed Hackney carriage drivers in the Guildford area , with Miss Manrique driving for 20 years and Ms Lamport for five.

“I said to Angela, for a year-and-a-half I have wanted to set up a female drivers’ service,” Ms Lamport said.

“I have been talking to a lot of people who felt they would be safer with a female driver.

"All of the Guildford drivers are vetted but they just felt if they are on their own, have broken up with their friends, they would feel a bit safer.”

Not wanting to pursue the venture alone, the 49-year-old got her good friend involved and the pair launched the company on social media .

“If we can’t do the jobs, we have two other drivers who cover our work in the evenings,” Ms Lamport said.

“I am usually on in the day until 7pm and the drivers who cover all night are female.

“On Saturday nights Angela and I are out all night.

"It’s nice. The girls can call us and book the appointments at the beginning of the evening and we do a set price.”

The company accepts passengers of all genders and has so far received five enquiries and a host of Christmas party bookings.

It operates on a fixed tariff rate for pre-booked journeys and offers support for passengers who may need assistance with medical appointments or shopping.

“A lot of elderly people have said when they go to the bank each month, they like to put money aside,” Ms Lamport said.

“It’s a reassuring service – we take elderly people shopping, take them to the dentist and assist them in.”

I don't think these two would want to be associated with that shambles

here's hoping they don't get targeted by thugs and rapists seeing them as an easy target but there again Guildford is not exactly the bronx probably more likely to have problems with snooty customers
