York used to be a lovely place to be a taxi driver, that was until 3 weeks ago when uber was provided an operators licence for our city, a lot of our usual very strict conditions to be an operator in York were all of a sudden relaxed to let uber operate, like having to have a 24 hour fully manned office, having to have a telephone number on every sideplate that goes on a vehicle, last night was mental with uber cars arriving from all four corners of the globe to work in York because uber are giving them massive incentives, its all gone Pete tong and our lazy inefficient councils answer is you have to have video evidence, we currently have no enforcement at all uber were literally pulling up on hackney ranks and picking up, last night when the hackneys boxed one in he said don't worry uber will sort it out with their barristers. NIGHTMARE.

Currently four Uber cars available.

I suspect drivers have been given incentives to come to York to get Uber up and running.

When those incentives stop, I'm not convinced those drivers will stay.

I had an interesting conversation yesterday with a couple of my fellow rail replacement bus driver who are ex-Uber London drivers. They said they were doing well at first with Uber, over £500 a week, then the rent went up, bookings down, longer hours, less money. so they now do part-time bus driving, 2 days a week, they take home more than they did for Uber working all week there!

Anyone fed up with low earnings in the PH/taxi business, there's a national shortage of bus drivers and the money's not too bad either. The firm I now do odd bits for on the north side of London pays up to £200 a day for a rail replacement duty, so 2 days a week suits me fine! all you need is a PSV licence and current driver CPC.

I was told it was "rent". Maybe a percentage.
