Give it up mate.

The Taxi games finished.

I'm just back from a long shift, after a count up, i've just about covered the Diesel.

I only do it to fill my otherwise mundane life, not for the money.

Honestly.

ASHY, can I ask why you want to be a taxi driver?? what brought the idea on.
is it that you recently sat in the back of a cab and handed your money over to the driver to pay the fare, thinking golly gosh what easy money he makes, thinking all that goes into his pocket

well i like driving for a start ....and i like the idea of going when you feel like?

and i see taxi drivers that are well off i ...know 1 solicitor who does taxi part time

apart from that i know its not like what it used to be....but i guess its better than being a bus driver ?call centre agent? :-|

In the end you'll get so fed up of driving that you just want to walk every where, then you won't feel like going to work
when you start bunging a grand here and a grand there for repairs to the motor along with other daily items that come your way in the taxi game you will feel like its them to whom you are paying your money to that are well off

Well the grass is always greener on the other side to some extent.

I don't speak to many drivers at the coal face who've been in the job a while and are really enthusiastic about it, except perhaps Sussex  and GBC, but clearly he earns a bit more than most drivers.

But at the end of the day, many know that if they work longish hours and weekends then they make more than they would elsewhere, and they have a bit more freedom than they would in a 'normal' job.

But it really depends on your earning capacity elsewhere and whether you have the temprament for the job - zipping around town and getting paid for it might seem an attractive proposition initially, but you'll probably see things differently once you've been in the job a while.

But you won't really know until you've tried it.

I have looked at the pro's & con's of the job. The pro's far out way the con's
Pro's
1) You are your own boss.
2) You can earn good money
3) I can spend more time with my family (Daughter 1 year old)
Con's
1) @ssholes, but they are only in your cab for 10 mins
2) Abuse or Violence (I am a big enough to look after myself)

I currently work shifts 2 days then 2 nights with 4 days off (12.15 hours per day). When I leave for my work in the morning my daughter is sleeping & when I get home @ 20:00 she is in bed, so I miss two days of her life. When I become a taxi driver I will be coming home for lunch so I can spend sometime with her & I can pop in passed when in my area. This also gives me the flex to take a day off as & when I like. My plan to start with is work Monday to Friday for two weeks of the month, but work Friday, Saturday & Sunday on the last & first weekend of the month. I have some debts to clear & once I have done this I will take more time off. I am 34 and plan on being a taxi driver until I retire and must admit I am looking forward to it.

Now that would be nice if it happens, but from my experience it doesn't.
