Boro Taxi driver sacked after viral video suggests he lured passenger to secluded layby near Middlesbrough

A TAXI driver had his contract with the North-East’s biggest firm terminated after a video surfaced of him with a teenage passenger in a secluded layby.

Boro Taxis has confirmed they investigated one of their drivers after becoming aware of accusations linked to a video now going viral online.

The footage documents a confrontation between the middle-aged man and a passing stranger, who accused the driver of luring the 19-year-old to the secluded Docklands Road, close to Grangetown near Middlesbrough.

According to the video, the man had become suspicious after driving past the taxi and seeing the driver with the young woman in the back seat.

After confronting the driver and highlighting the isolated location, the man reported his concerns to Cleveland Police just after 3am on Thursday, December 8.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “An officer spoke to the 19-year-old woman and it was established she was safe and well and that no offences had taken place.”

Despite the police taking no further action, Boro Taxis decided to terminate the contract of the driver, who was off duty at the time of the incident.

A spokesman for the company said: “We expect the highest standards of behaviour from drivers, even while off duty, as was the case here.

“Therefore, we immediately investigated the matter, terminated his contract and reported him to the licensing authority, Stockton Borough Council.

“We understand the council is investigating this matter and trust they will take the appropriate action.”

Stockton Borough Council confirmed an investigation was ongoing, while the spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said the force was currently liaising with the authority’s taxi licensing department with regards to the driver’s behaviour.

Sacked, but was never ever employed!

Contract terminated, but never really had a contract other than to pay the rent at the end of the week!

This was a driver not even licenced in the area it was caught, but the company uses drivers licenced in any area to pick up in any area their cover without notification, so even the licensing officers could not have pulled him up.

This post needs evening up a bit
COP SEX ABUSE SHOCK Rotherham child abuse scandal gets even worse as now POLICE OFFICERS are accused of sexually abusing children
Concerns were also flagged that police officers failed to act to help young victims of sex abuse

COPS are being investigated over sex abuse allegations in the scandal hit town of Rotherham.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been called in to probe the involvement of an undisclosed number of police involved in sex abuse claims – with a top cop further admitting officers were to blame for “significant” failures into the Rotherham scandal.

I wonder if they will be doing the safeguarding course?

Man charged after viral video showed taxi driver in dark lane with teen girl in cab

Cleveland Police initially said no offence had been committed but have now announced they have charged a man with sexual touching

A man has been charged after a viral video showed a driver with a teenager in the back of his cab.

Police took a man into custody on Wednesday in relation to a video, widely viewed on social media, which showed a confrontation between a man and taxi driver.

In the footage, the man filming the video demands to know why the taxi driver was sitting in the back of a Boro Taxis car with a teenage girl down a dark lane.

The force has confirmed that a 35-year-old man has been charged with sexual touching following an alleged incident in a taxi on Docklands Road near Grangetown at around 3am on Thursday December 8.

The man will appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on January 23.

On Wednesday, Cleveland Police released a statement that said it had been established that the victim “ was safe and well and that no offences had taken place ”.

But it later said that a man had indeed been arrested “having received further information”, and said in a statement: “Just after 3am on Thursday December 8, a member of the public reported concerns for a young woman he had come across in a taxi on Docklands Road near Grangetown.”

Boro Taxis said that a driver depicted in a video, which quickly spread online, was a self-employed contractor using his own vehicle and was off-duty at the time of the alleged offence.

A spokesperson added: “We expect the highest standards of behaviour from drivers, even while off duty as was the case here, and therefore immediately investigated the matter, terminated his contract and reported him to the licensing authority, Stockton Borough Council.

“We understand the Council is investigating this matter and trust they will take the appropriate action.”

The video was posted online where it has been shared and posted again by several users.

The person who originally filmed the video has since removed it after it emerged that the taxi driver had left the company.

A spokesperson for Stockton Council, said: “We are aware of the complaint and an investigation is ongoing.”

this to me sounds like some sort of witch hunt. Yes the driver should have known better BUT it sounds as if pressure is being applied to get a conviction against him when all he's done is pulled a girl half his age
