Taxi driver arrested on suspicion of drink driving after smashing into lamp post on M60 bridge

A driver blew 135 during a breathalyser test - three times over the national limit

A taxi driver has been arrested on suspicion of being three times over the drink driving limit just before 10am after smashing into a lamp post.

A driver floored the lamp post on a motorway slip road bridge on the M60 , near Prestwich, just before 9.50am on Tuesday.

It was flung over the bridge barrier and fell onto lane one of the motorway, narrowly missing cars passing underneath.

The driver was breathalysed at the scene and blew 105mg - nearly three times over the national limit of 35.

Identification checks showed the car was a licensed taxi vehicle.

A 34-year-old man from Bolton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

He remains in police custody.

Starting point for that offence is 12 weeks in jail and 29 months ban.

Starting point for that is a medium level community order (80-120 hours unpaid work) and a 23-29 months ban.

Who knows?

From memory you only ever see the lights at the roadside, and the actual legal readings are done on the machine back at the station.

But the limit is 35 so three times that is 105.
