Taxi Driver Online

Over the past couple of weeks we drivers have noticed that there is a Nottingham City Council licensed private hire vehicle with DG cars livery delivering for Domino's pizzas. It even has a Dominos top sign on. The car parks right outside Dominoes which is where our main taxi rank is. However a driver has just reported that the driver has now taken off the top sign and appears to be carrying passengers around. Looks like I will be having a busy morning come Monday.

However the main problem is the fact your local council doesn't have any powers to deal with a vehicle not licensed by them.

And I'm not convinced the council that does license him has powers to control him outside of their licensing area.

You seem to be missing the bit about him picking up passengers. How is it that some councils seem to be able to prosecute out of area private hire picking up passengers and others can't ? The cases from Cheltenham and outside Old Trafford spring to mind.

I suppose 'mystery shopping' is an option, but after the event local councils have no powers to request info from a vehicle that's not licensed by them.

So how come some Councils successfully prosecute drivers from other areas? Do you agree that a council can prosecute a person who is picking up passengers without a license to do so? As in someone who decides to go out in their private car and act as a taxi picking up from the street and charging for doing so.

My previous post implied they could!!!!!!

But they can't act unless they have evidence, and as they can't demand access to booking records or compel drivers to attend interviews, then in effect they are powerless.

Just seeing a person get into the vehicle is not evidence of illegal activity, it's evidence of a person getting into a vehicle, nothing more.

Assuming they use one all bookings are kept the server with despatch systems, HMRC just wade in above the booking office, the base dont even know
