My comments refer to a particular student whose mother is sometimes not at home when she should be. Now it is her responsibility to be at home when her son is due and is not the fault of any government. I certainly do not condone what the driver in the original post did and I am sure he will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
I had a driver a couple of years ago who had 3 special needs students on board and whilst stopped at traffic lights he got out of the vehicle leaving the door open and the engine running whilst he went to ask the driver in the car behind a question. This was brought to my attention before the driver had brought the car back to the office and he was dismissed on the spot as soon as he got back.

I still think that was harsh a warning definitely but instant dismissal was it really justified ?

He had received warning for other things previously. But to leave the car with the door open and engine running with kids in??? No sorry but that is just plain stupid.

" 2 issues there sunshine the first one you as usual try wiggle out of is the DRIVERS dutyoif care towards the child passenger leaving a child un escorted is in my opinion a CRIMINAL ACT. and your fookin Tory scum have of course attacked Councils budgets to enable them to repay the banksters debts as a result CAB DRIVERS are being allowed to carry out transport requirements they clearly as demonstrated here out of their own mouths. are totally unsuitable for!! Plus of course the example of the eejit whose activities led to this thread.

As for your Driver who got the instant dismissal bang on the money i think though he was entitled to a hearing and maybe there were extenuating circumstances, from this distance i cannot tell, Edders shows genuine concern for which he is to be congratulated :D :D

The circumstances were this. We had a driver off ill so we called on the services of one of our night drivers to cover. The driver who was sacked did not know who the night driver was but instead of asking any of our other drivers at the school, there were seven others there including the managing director, he waited until he was at the lights with the passengers on board when he left the vehicle to ask the driver in the car behind who the night driver was. Not only was he dismissed but I reported his actions to County Hall and our local Council. He was called into our Council for a hearing and kept his license because the sub committee members were not sure if he had left the door open and engine running. The driver who reported the incident to me was never asked for a statement by the Council and beither was I. We have trackers in the vehicles that show when the engine is running and when it isn't so there was evidence available if they wanted it. This chap is still driving for another company in the town.

And it's a bloody sight harder to believe they did not inform the Parents of a School closure...why blame the Taxi driver?

i had one the "other way to this, i checked on the schools website to see if they were in & according to that they were, so we went to pick up our first kid & they told me there was a teachers training day & they were off  the fookers never updated there website, i went to school the next day & they said they had, so got it on my phone & showed the stupid clunts, they hadn't & just totally fooked it off as in " well ya only a fooking driver, who cares !", i was furious but couldn't do anything, but slept well in the knowledge that i never had my bairn/grandbairn taken to school for nothing & they would have swapped me in a heartbeat
