I have just tried to tax one of our cars online. However because it is registered as a hackney and our council do not do their own testing (it doesn't need one) you can't tax it online and need to go to the post office. How strange.

with a certificate of compliance you have to take all docs to PO and pay it or when you get your hackney test done pay extra for a vosa mot as well and that will appear on their system then but council compliance tests are not MOT's so don't appear on the MOT system.

How come you have only just found that out ? it's been the case ever since they brought in doing road tax on line #-o

Last year we taxed the vehicle on line without any problems. The vehicle is now 2 years old so it still doesn't need an MOT. Our Council test is not acceptable in place of an MOT. I also taxed 2 other vehicles on line today without any problems.

We do when an MOT is needed. This vehicle does not need an MOT yet, it is only 2 years old.

Hackneys need an mot or equivalent at 1 year old.

Round here you need an MOT every year even if it's a brand new car straight out of the showroom. With it doing the miles the Council insist on one every year.
