MISTAKES by Uber drivers on York’s roads have been captured on camera by rival taxi drivers.
Dashcam video clips have been posted on Youtube by local taxi and private hire drivers, showing Uber cars going the wrong way along city centre one-way streets such as Colliergate and Petergate.
Another vehicle is filmed going the wrong way along the Nunnery Lane gyratory and then entering Bishopthorpe Road on the wrong slip-road, another is seen illegally turning right out of Lendal, while another is filmed going the wrong way around York Hospital’s system and then shouting foul-mouthed abuse when challenged.
The Press sent links to some of the videos to Uber, which said it took all allegations of dangerous driving very seriously.
“We will contact the private hire drivers that we can identify as Uber partners and remind them of their obligations,” said a spokesman.
“Any driver that breaks the terms of their Private Hire licence or Uber partnership risks not only losing access to the Uber app, but also risks losing their private hire licence.”
Matt Boxall, head of public protection at City of York Council, which enforces the licensed taxi trade, said: “Dangerous driving incidents should also be reported to the police. As with any complaint, we will investigate and, where appropriate, take any action as the law allows.”
He said it was currently investigating a number of complaints, and anyone with a concern should phone 01904 551525 or email
