A Sheffield taxi driver was beaten up in a robbery by two men who tried to steal his takings.

The 49-year-old, who does not want to be named, picked up two men from East Bank Road, Arbourthorne, at 5.20am on Wednesday, February 8 and pulled over in Molloy Street, Meersbrook, where they asked to be dropped off.

A taxi driver was assaulted in a robbery in Sheffield As they were getting out of the car one of the men wrapped his arms around the taxi driver's neck from the back seat while the other searched the car for his takings. The taxi driver was assaulted during his ordeal but he refused to disclose where he kept his money bag and the robbers escaped empty-handed.

They fled down a gennel onto Albert Road. The robbery was captured on CCTV, which the taxi driver's son has shared on Facebook. The incident has also been reported to South Yorkshire Police. The taxi driver's son said: "I was fuming when I heard what had happened so went to Molloy Street the following day and found someone with CCTV footage of the robbery. "I think that those who did this had it all planned. They went to a quiet street with a dead end and seemed to know exactly where the gennel was. "My dad was lucky to just escape with cuts and bruises and a fat lip. It could have been a lot worse. "He was determined not to tell them where his money bag was so they gave up in the end and ran off." Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
