Watch the moment FIVE clubbers pile into a Newcastle taxi in the city centre
Our video has been passed on to Newcastle City Council who have now referred it to Northumbria Police

This is the moment five clubbers pile into a taxi in Newcastle city centre.

Our video shows three men approaching the vehicle - two of them get into the back seats while the third heads towards the driver’s window.

He is seen giving the driver a thumbs-up and takes the front passenger seat.

Then, the video shows two women coming up to the Peugeot.

One of them has a brief conversation with the men in the back before she signals to her friend and they both get into the car too.

The men in the back can be seen squeezing into the seats to make room for the girls.

The video was taken near the Centre for Life at around 2.40am on February 5.

Chronicle Live passed on the video to Newcastle City Council who say they have now referred the matter to Northumbria Police.

The council, which operates a strict set of rules regarding taxi licencing, has confirmed that the vehicle in question is only licenced to carry four passengers.

A council spokesman said: “The City Council Licensing Authority can confirm that the private hire vehicle featured in this video is only licenced to carry four passengers.

“The video shows five passengers entering the vehicle and as a result this would exceed the permitted carrying capacity and potentially impact on the insurance cover of that car.

“We have referred the matter on to Northumbria Police and will be taking proportionate action to review the private hire driver’s licence ourselves.”

Don't know. He was caught by the police and prosecuted and found guilty. He didn't even get a suspension from the Council, just a slap on the wrist.

I do remember an occasion before I took over the business of a driver getting a lift back to wittering in the boot of a car taking a fare there. The passenger couldn't understand the funny knocking noises coming from the boot
