Poland clamps down on Uber drivers

10.03.2017 13:24

Poland’s transport watchdog is cracking down on Uber drivers, fining them up to PLN 10,000 (EUR 2,310) for not possessing city-issued taxi licenses, the Gazeta Wyborcza daily has said.

The Main Road Transport Inspectorate is targeting Uber drivers, because they are not legally allowed to commercially carry passengers, and do not pay all the necessary taxes on the money they earn through Uber.

However, according to the Gazeta Wyborcza daily, Uber drivers are not worried about the situation, as the company covers all costs, including the fines, and provides free legal counsel.
In Poland Uber currently operates in Warsaw, Wrocław, the Tricity area in northern Poland, Poznań and Kraków. (tf/rg)
