Airport link would make up for lack of taxis

I RECENTLY returned from New York on a business trip to Edinburgh Airport on a Saturday morning.

I cleared customs/immigration and made my way to the taxi rank shortly before 8am.

I, along with many others, were amazed at the lack of taxis available at that time.

I waited for 45 minutes before getting a taxi home to South Queensferry.

Until recently I was commuting on a weekly basis between Edinburgh and Southampton.

Waiting this length of time on a Friday evening for a taxi was not unusual.

Indeed on many occasions, the wait for a taxi was greater than the flight duration between the two airports.

I read again the continuing debate with interest on the various arguments for or against trams/train/bus links or expanding taxi services to Edinburgh airport.

I wonder how many of the critics of these plans actually use the airport as a regular commuting base?

But didn't Jacobs say there was no unmet demand? Image

i have dropped off at edinburgh airport and can see the que at the taxi rank but becoz of BAAs rules neither myself (PH) or blacks can pick up unless it has been pre booked and then we have to collect them from the pre booked rank at the side of the new multi car park and you have to get them in the car and out of the car park in under 8mins or you have to pay £1.50

so at the peak times and most of the day there are pleanty of PH and Hacks at the airport

I can see this is going to come as a shock to most of you but on one occasion at Edinburgh Airport I was taken away in handcuffs, charged with a breech of the piece, stripped searched, DNA tested and locked up for a couple of hours. And all because I attempted to pick up couple of Italian tourists and yes I did mouth off to the officers but I never said what they claimed.

Incidentally, Edinburgh Council deemed me to be a fit and proper person with no case to answer.

Democracy, my arse!
