Banned taxi drivers still on the road

The government is being urged to create a central database for taxi drivers in England and Wales.

An investigation by BBC Radio 5 live found that some drivers who have had their licence revoked are continuing to work after getting a licence from another council.

Danni Hewson reports. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39248531

It's about time there was a national database.

The database would be useless without an overhaul of the licencing system

I think there should be a database - but who polices it?

Why don't all applications have a 'Have you ever been refused a License' section?

Of course people can and do tell fibs, but once caught out a license can be stripped just on that basis.

We have that question on our forms.

you are very naive Sussex we have that question on our forms and i know there are 9 locally who were stripped of their license in peterborough BUT our council takes the view that they cannot deny someone the right to work

that is why i suggest the database needs to be accompanied by an overhaul of licensing which would limit the amount of discretion councils have

Suggest you tell that to the local press.
