Taxi Driver Online

Hi all. Just looking for some tips and recommendations. I'm currently a class one trucker looking to become a taxi driver. I'm thinking of buying a ford torneo custom 9 seater (me plus 8 passengers). Can anyone point out the requirements I would need. I.e. Plates. Licence. Insurance. Is it worth it. Cheers much.

That question depends on a LOT of things it varies quite considerably across the uk

1) where are you planning to work ?
2) hackney or PH ?
3)Are you going with a firm or on your own ?

Don't expect fewer hours in this trade you have to put the hours in to get the money out

and don't even touch uber with a bargepole there are a lot of greedy shiisters in this game and they are top of the dung heap

You wont here this often but I agree with Nidge. A class one trucker should be able to earn more than a taxi driver.

Its possible he has genuine reason to consider a change, and im not sure your comment need be true, we cant know what he earns for 1 thing, i see LGV vacancies advertised at £9/hr yet my lad is now office staff at £11.50/hr... but he was netting £500/week on the taxi (60 hours)....plus the OP may be on continental or over night runs or tramping, he may want to be at home a bit more, he may be fed up roping and sheeting...

I'm not really doing it for the money as I'm now on t/h £38k but currently I'm away from home Sunday afternoon till saturday morning. So being home a little more would be loads better.

Lol got bored with roping n sheeting years ago. Now fed up of the whole restriction being imposed on us making it harder to work.

The grass isn't always greener.

Will cost you a few quid to get licensed, and more to license a motor.

Can be a great trade to work in, but think long and hard.

It depends massively as to where you are based. In the right parts of the country £500+ can be earned doing 2x12 hour shifts on a Fri + Sat nights only - do not expect to earn as much on days. As Sussex says the trade can be good.Yes there are plenty of A.Hs out there, having said that....if you were a copper/fireman/ambulance/paramedic worker etc......you still be dealing with the scum (every job seems to have its drawback). The major plusses are that you literally work, or dont work when you want to - you start and finish when YOU want to.

I see that you have access to Manchester - there should be plenty going on there to keep you busy.

Re going on your own. Unless you have an Operators licence, you will do next to nothing as a PH - you would otherwise need to work for/with a company. As a Hackney driver you can pick up from the ranks/streets etc (in your licensing area only) - on that basis you do not need to belong to any company, neither do you need a separate Operators licence.

im an owner and was PH, but been hack for 2 years, many contract jobs dont need a hack, id go back in a flash, ive my own £600/week school run and take internet bookings via several apps, and have a base i use as and when

Ive been an owner driver almost 10 years this stint, did 10 years before but never been a sheep/lamb to the slaughter

Like I said, stay where you are. You wont get anywhere near that money in this trade.
