However, I agree that it would in areas that are unrestricted numerically or where plate premiums are low, but not in high premium areas.

So what is (or, rather was,) the plate value in K.L.?

We are given to understand that the K.L. ruling is all hacks must be WAV, with no more than 15K on the clock. They may as well have said put on a brand new cab, because where will you find a second hand WAV with that low a mileage? You could find a two year old saloon with less than 15K on the clock, do you not think? So I think cost will preclude many from remaining Hackney Carriage. Although Kings Lynn is about 70 miles from here, I know nothing about the place. Is trade that good that it would be worthwile putting on a brand new WAV? Any K.L. cabbies out there?

I think the LO's report says that plate premiums were about £6,000. But does it really matter? Now the trade is going to be quality driven, not shed driven.

Is it good that all new PH and taxi vehicles must be new or nearly new? To be honest I haven't a problem with that, everyone is treated the same.

I would sooner have a £30,000 motor and no plate premiums, than a £1,000 shed and a £29,000 plate premium.

If you take the Kings Lynn (proposal?) to it's logical conclusion, when you can only present a vehicle for testing less than one year old/15,000 miles,
why should it be passed the next year, or the year after that? Why should it be that one cab would fail because it is say, three years old when first presented for test, when a cab that is five years old passes, because it was licensed as new originally in that area. Supposing Kings Lynn man has his cab stolen, when it is three years old, not recovered, how would he be able to put on a replacement, when he has not paid off the finance on the original. Never been there, but, I doubt if the work flying off the ranks, and I doubt if there are any treble, or even double shifted cabs.
But what the edited by admin, lets edited by admin around with people's lives. If the council do decide to edited by admin it up, they can always re-restrict can't they? If anyone is left. No smilies, it's just not edited by admin funny.

I think they mean on first licensing, else driver's would be putting on new cars every year.

As for the stolen or written off car issue, surely that's no different than what we all have at the moment, apart from the fact that council's should have a 'in most circumstances' get out.

I do understand where you are coming from, but we have to have a start and a finish, although a case can be made IMO to end age limits.

I KNOW they mean on first licensing. please remember I was a taxi driver in Baghdad, when you were in your Dad's bag.

If I decided to go to free for all KL, why should they fail my cab because it is over an abitrary mileage, and pass one with 150,000 on the clock because it was tested new there.Stupid, stupid, stupid, illogical rule.

Apparently, you can shoot a Welshman on a sunday with a bow and arrow, in Gloucester Cathedral, (or something like) Stupid Council rules with no rhyme or reason are killing the trade.

Much in the same way as de-limiting itself will.

But that illogical, dare I say flawed, rule is in place in all but a few councils.

Yes, there are but a few Council's that do not have stupid, illogical, flawed, rules and regulations. The City of Lincoln is one beacon of light.
If that were not the case, I would not be sat on a taxi rank, staring at the seven cabs in front of me, and the PH sharks, circling.
