They come here and get free treatment

I go to Cyprus and get a £600 fecking bill

I thought as long as you had your card it was free in the eu

BUT.......... at least in Cyprus we got to see a doctor, we came back 25th and rang our GP we got told the first appt was on the 1st September then the receptionist said "well youve got antibiotics you will be ok for a bit"

Health insurance is the best value insurance you can get.

If you have travel insurance and you let them know then you may well get a bill that you have to pay and claim back later. If you don't have travel insurance but you are carrying your EHIC card then treatment within the EU should be free providing that the same treatment is free for their own nationals in their country. My wife was taken ill in Spain at the end of July. She was taken to the local medical center by ambulance and given a thorough check up and they just took the details from her EHIC card so that they could send the bill direct to the NHS.

I don't have BUPA or any health insurance.
Like I said earlier. If you don't have insurance or don't tell them you have insurance then they will take the EHIC provided you have it on you. I think it is standard procedure to pay for the treatment up front and claim it back later if you use your insurance.
