JD if i remember rightly plates in your part of the world are worth a fortune, but then so what? if your plate value became zero tomorrow, wouldn't it affect you?

But then again you aint no taxi driver, like we have tried explaining to you if thier are currently 100 cars and the fleet doubles, then thiers less work to go around, and everyone earns less money.

This is also no concern to you, as your legal business is booming isn't it?

I was under the impression you subscribed to the theory that plate values are irrelevant? People keep telling me that plates are not sold, they are used as a nest egg for retirement? Jimbo has a hard time believing plates in some areas do command high values. Perhaps your comments should be aimed in Jimbo's direction because he has a hard time believing plates are worth a fortune in this part of the world. I just wonder which one of you two Siamese twins is right?

Who is we?

I take it for granted you already know the fleet has doubled in the last 18 years. Plates are now worth 45 grand, weekends are most lucrative and it is quite common to earn in excess of 700 a week. So which part of your statement is incorrect?

If you say so?

Well I've certainly tried explaining the following numerous times, so perhaps you could point out what's wrong with the following:

If there are currently 100 cars with 200 drivers, and each driver runs his own car and the fleet doubles, how does everyone earn less money?

Perhaps the original 100 earn less because they're not milking the other drivers, but welcome to the real world.

Go to Sheffield and try your simple arithmetic.

100 cars, 200 drivers + de-limit = 500 cars and rising. simple math? simple minded madness!

Spoken like a true owner in a restricted area.

Of course you wouldn't mind those 500 drivers sharing 100 cars, but no way can they have their own. [-X

they can have thier own, all they have to do is pay the entry requirement.

Jimbo has a good point about Sheffield, I am afraid TDO's rather simplistic formula doesn't quiet work.

yeh like 45k with no gaurentees is probably a much better bet
great advise 187ums
so if you by the plate and then the council derestricts, then what position is does that leave him in ??
good for you if hes bought youre plate.
you can then retire yes.

you cant hide behind the "council knows best" claim, the council only deregged because the "wannaplates" and the "freeeloaders" wanted them. The trade told them what was going to happen, and it did.[/quote]

well if you put it like that then yes your analogy is correct.

I am a "havaplate" so if my Council had a survey, and the survey found that more plates were needed, then some of the "wannaplates" can get thier plate, but it will still cost them 33k for a new TX2.

However if the "wannaplates" moaned and groaned, huffed and puffed, and wanted a free for all, then yes I would do what I could do protect my trade.
