had a driver phone up this morning saying his car wouldn't start

he refused the offer of a jump start and insisted on charging up the battery and coming in later. mega busy morning so phoned him up at 10.30 to be told he's now decided to phone breakdown #-o

tried phoning again lunchtime not answering phone

2.30 this afternoon got a text to say breakdown on the way  6 hours after car wouldn't start

17.00 got a text saying breakdown had got his car started will be in in the morning

call be cynical but I smell a load of B.S.

this morning I REALLY could have done with the car out working

went through traffic lights on A5, pulled into right hand land carefully and without getting even close to anyone, the road ahead filters down to one lane and a tvvat in a 17 plate Tiguan pulls alongside and creeps forward and across squeezing me into the kerb even though we were by then only level when he could have pulled in behind me forcing me to brake...

one day (when i get my dashcam) ill just hit the tvvat

Toyota dealers

My driver with a hybrid been off the road 36 hours Toyota have decided it's not the 12v battery at fault it is the car's taximeter flattening it and have told the driver keep the meter switched off at all times except when the engine is running

Really are meters that power hungry ? the meter in the tourneo got left on for 72 hours once after the driver forgot to switch it off started without no problem and the zafiras you can leave the meter on overnight and they'll start perfectly OK

Think that's a load of old fanny.

Dealers always blame the taxi equipment.

Nah, I've been lurking.

Generally life is good although today has been a bit of a mare, waiting 3 hours for the RAC

They mean when the car is'nt switched on, not just when the engine isn't running #-o The 12v battery is only for initialising the computers when starting the car, it doesn't have a large capacity. Once the car is started (engine doesn't have to be running) all the cars systems are powered by the traction battery and the 12v battery is trickle charged by this traction battery.

Either the driver is switching the car off completely so the electrics are being powered solely by the 12v battery or the meter has been wired to draw power even when the car is off. Most meters automatically turn off after a short time of inactivity, even so I'd be surprised it would drain the 12v system in anything less than 12 hours. If the car is 'on' then the 12v battery will never go flat, unless there's a fault.

Is he sitting with the car in accessory mode, with the radio, heater blower, meter, PDA, interior light, mobile phone all switched on ? Or do these remain powered even when the car is completely 'off' ? That'll drain the battery pretty quick on these cars.

No EVERYTHING OFF except the radio (2way)

Just to be clear, all off as in car just unlocked and sat in drivers seat, 'ignition' not touched at all ?

That alone should'nt drain the battery in just a few hours even. However if the radios left on overnight it's possible it might go below whats needed to start the computers, but I'd be surprised if that's the case. Another thing to check is that all the interior lights are off, especially the one one the boot. There was a problem with some owners where the boot light was draining the battery - but that took several days.

The only other thing to check (which I reckon the garage would have done) is to see if theres any drain on the battery with everthing off. Not sure of the procedure to do an instant check, but leave the car off for an hour at the end of the day then measure the battery voltage using a multimeter, it should read between 12-13v then first thing the next day check it again and compare it to the previous nights reading, there should be only a slight difference - it should be no less than 11v. If not the batterys being drained by something or is faulty. When the cars fully 'on', engine running or not, there should be a voltage of about 14v across the terminals.

Have you got a battery from another hybrid you can swap over and see if the problem persists ? At least then you'll know whether it's the battery or the car. But as I've said if the cars 'on', not accesorry mode, the battery is always charging and can't go flat. Tell the driver to keep it switched on when he's in the car !

Gripe: Police saying the Junkies that did their Crack Cocaine in the back of my Cab, then didn't have their fare would not be pursued because "It's not in the Public Interest" despite the CCTV pictures but I would be arrested if I published the pictures or passed them to other Drivers.

Anti Gripe: Licensing Office that take my side and will be plaguing the Police.

Other Anti Gripe: Ward Councillor that will be doing the same as the Licensing Office.
