I happen to believe that the best people to decide what they do, is the people themselves.

Not you, not me, but them.

If the grass is greener elsewhere, all well and good. If not, then so be it. But it is for them to decide for themselves.

As I said, not you, not me, not the so-called unions, but themselves.

So you think you know what's best for people? I happen to believe they do, or should do.

You should be a politician, with vague meaningless, soundbites like that.

No I don't want to be a politicain, I tell the truth too much.

But there's nothing vague about letting drivers choose for themselves.

So, you happen to believe, people should, well what, exactly?

Be offered exactly the same opportunities as others.

Be able to license a cab if they wish, without having to pay someone tens of thousands for something that was given away by the council for nothing.

But if they want to run a PH, or just journey a taxi, then good luck to them.

But it should be down to them, not down to anyone else.

well the guys in Swindon have had dereg shoved down thier throats. so of course they will have to work longer.

funny thing is you guys seem to be obsessed with plate premiums all the time.

have a look at the Sheffield thread, thier it clearly shows the numbers before and deregulation, and its not as simple as TDO's grasp of mathematics.

What Sheffield thread?

Which numbers?

If you're referring to jimbo's attempt in a recent thread then it was his arithmetic that was askew, not mine :D

But if you have the Sheffield numbers to hand then please share them with us.

Until a few years ago, the council imposed a limit of 300 licences for Hackney cabs but deregulation in response to legal changes meant anyone able to pass the council's test could ask for a licence, regardless of the number already working in the city. Since then the number has more than doubled to over 600, while private hire taxis have increased from around 600 to more than 800.

And according to you all those cars must be sitting around doing nothing.

So Sheffield must have the thickest drivers in the country. Paying all that money just to sit around twidling their thumbs.

Back to the topic's theme, with idiots doing mad hours (in this case a presently limited area), soon there will come a time when we are restricted to the number of hours we work.

Good thing in my mind.

My own example. When I first got my 'bill' many years ago. I needed to earn as I had done the 'K' full time. Luckily mummy kept me, but I had still had depts to pay. I did hours. Starting at 2 or 3 pm untill the same am. I was young and had the stamina to do this.

Nowdays as a 'part-timer' I do maybe 7 hours each time I go out. I do a lot of ranking as I have loads of books that I need to read.

I know that there are many 'butters' that having purchased cabs, homes, do the 16 hours a shift.

If the working hours regulation comes about. There will be a long line going to the bankrupcy court.

Wonder why it is then that everytime I go to Sheffield I can never get a cab home. Also everytime I am working and I drop off in Sheffield somone trys to climb into my car wanting taking home.

Quoting numbers just dont tell the whole story
