Maybe it's just me, but dashcam footage doesn't show very much at all - just a crack appearing on the windscreen, but you'll have to visit the website to see for yourself.

Only think I really noticed was the driver overtaking the van quite rapidly on the inside, which isn't exactly textbook driving. Maybe I'm missing something, but can't see the van indicating or any turn off that it might be about to make [-X

Watch moment brick smashed Royal Cars’ taxi window as it was driven down Middlesbrough street

Paul King, 36, was driving down Ayresome Green Lane when his windscreen was damaged

This is the shocking moment a brick was hurled at a taxi windscreen.

The thoughtless act was carried out when Royal Cars taxi driver, Paul King, was driving along Ayresome Green Lane in Middlesbrough with two passengers in the back seat.

Luckily, no one was injured, but Paul, 36, is in no doubt as to how serious the incident on Tuesday could have been.

“At first I actually thought it was a bird, I had two lads in the car and they told me the window had cracked”, he said.

“I whizzed around the area but couldn’t find anybody, it was like a ghost, they’d just disappeared.

“Someone could’ve been killed. It was big brick that had been thrown by someone hiding behind the wall.

“Anybody could have been walking past like parents with their children and it would have been fatal.

“Luckily, the passengers were in the back seat, but if it was an elderly person in the front, they could have easily had a heart attack.

“I was very lucky it didn’t come through the windscreen as it could have killed me.”

It is the latest in a long line of attacks against Royal Cars taxis - but due to the lack of evidence, police find it difficult to track down the culprits.

In November last year, a rock was thrown through a minibus side window in Thornaby, causing severe damage.

And in another incident a couple of months before, a driver was targeted by brick lobbing youths.

“I’ve worked for the company for a year and I’ve heard it happen a lot, but I’d never thought it would happen to me,” added Paul, from Thorntree.

"I need to keep working but something like this does prey on your mind and it worries you.

“I’m just thankful my kids weren’t in the car at the time.”

Cleveland Police told Teesside Live that the investigation into the incident was closed but would ‘look at any new information that comes to light’.

Anyone who has any information should contact them on 101.
