Not very nice Geoffrey, referring to pub landlords as dross. I thought they were a valuable help to our business whether it be PH or HC. Incidentally, any pub landlord or any of their friends may like to have a look at http://.knowhere.co.uk./3447_goodbad.html. and click on THE BEST THINGS

I'd always wondered where 'Wharf Taxis' came from - I always had in my mind some kind of harbour or something like that, which seemed a bit strange miles from the coast - I thought it might be something like Wigan Pier :?

But now I know!

Dusty :)

I didn't half bang my head when I dived off that bloody pier.

Good fishing though. :D

Sir James Anderton was born and bred in Wigan. The former Chief Constable of Greater Manchester who is probably best remembered by the public for his outspoken views on morals, religion and homosexuality. Oh, and not forgetting crime, of course. One of his profound observations was that homos and lesbians were "swirling around in a cesspool of their own making." Another was that criminals did not commit offences because they were from poor backgrounds, they did it because they were evil !! Great stuff. Alas, poor old James "retired". God bless him. :P :P :P

I think he was classed as 'persona non grata' by most in the council, especially those who were members of the Police Authority. Mind you, if I may digress, a former colleague of his, Mr Stalker now makes millions out of advertising security measures which supposedly give peace of mind to existing and potential victims of crime.
