Urgent call to help disabled Darlington man find a taxi ride

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/1 ... taxi-ride/

A DAUGHTER is appealing for help to ensure her disabled father is able to leave his care home after calling dozens of taxi firms unable to help him.

Rebecca Snowdon said she was “in shock” that no Darlington taxi firms were able to offer transport for her wheelchair-bound father who has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

She said: “Being disabled doesn’t mean you don’t have a life and it's very upsetting my dad is being told he can’t go out if it isn’t on weekdays between 9am and 5pm.”

Mr Snowdon requires a lift to and from a destination a mile from his care home.

Anyone able to offer assistance can call 07837-845787.

Not sure if that means the cab firms can only provide a WAV 9-5, or if the daughter/care home can make alternative arrangements during that time, or what.

most care homes have their own wav so it is more likely she wants the service during "unsocial hours"

I used to get 50 percent of total annual demand for wheelchair service christmas day, boxing day and new year

In other words only when the volunteer services and/or Nursing home staff don't want to work

I bet there are plenty of firms that can take him - but not his 3/4 ton electric wheelchair.
