New Lincoln taxi firm offers 99p journeys

A new taxi company has launched in Lincoln today offering opening day journeys for as little as 99p.

Lincoln Cars will open for business at 12pm on Tuesday, September 11 from their offices at 381b High Street in Lincoln, opposite the Super Lincs supermarket.

The company will start with 10 members of staff; seven drivers, including the three main investors who own the company, and three people in the office.

Among the office staff is office manager and controller Connor Allbones, who has previous experience of being an ambulance controller.

Connor told The Lincolnite: “The city used to have three main taxi companies – Direct, Discount and Handsome Cabs. When Discount were bought out by Direct they (the three investors of Lincoln Cars) saw the opportunity to create some competition.”

The company is offering an initial promotion from 12pm until midnight on Tuesday (September 11) with all fares in the Lincoln city area priced at 99p.

After this time fares in the town area will start from £4.30.

Connor added: “We played things close to the chest to get things ready to open and this idea for promotion is to help get things taking off.”

To book a taxi or for more information contact Lincoln Cars from 12pm on 01522 626262.

Don't think it's anything to get too excited about, to be fair - it's just for 12 hours, and obviously little more than a start-up gimmick.

Of course, they could be discounting in the longer-term, and to that degree no doubt adding to the competition in that regard that's already taking place in Lincoln (presumably), but the 99p offer is just a 12-hour sales promotion.

Reliability may not be their trade mark if reports of ambulance waiting times are correct.ex ambulance controller in charge.

Madness.

All that happens is the world rings for a 99p car and you have none available.

Thick as pigs s***.

Indeed, even if there's a few disgruntled punters who can't get a car the thinking will be that it's a good bit of free advertising and getting their name out there. Only seven drivers, so even if many Lincolnians (?) are put off by it, it's attracted enough happy punters to get them off the ground.

All publicity is good publicity, sort of thing.

In fact the firm more or less said all that:
