Good that this is highlighted, but usual confusion with the word 'taxi'

Coronation Street fans spot taxi blunder as Bethany Platt follows Billy Mayhew

Viewers took to Twitter after Bethany jumped in a taxi in pursuit of Billy Mayhew in Corrie

(This is just the relevant extract from the whole article)

Bethany Platt played detective in tonight's Coronation Street, jumping in a Street Cars taxi to follow vicar Billy Mayhew.

Worried that Billy had been acting strangely the teenager jumped into a taxi and asked the driver "follow that car please."

Fans were impressed that Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, used her manners to ask so politely. But some pointed out that the taxi hadn't been booked out beforehand, and was therefore uninsured to take her in pursuit of Billy.

Mark Andrews tweeted: "Is it right Bethany Platt can just literally jump into a cab like that on Corrie? I thought private hire taxi u had to book through the operator otherwise you won’t be insured??"

Scott said: "Bethany didn’t book that minicab in advance. It’s uninsured."

And Sharon Forbes said: "Big faux pas on Corrie. It’s illegal to just jump into a private hire taxi without pre-booking. #nitpicking."

Bethany got on Billy's case when she saw him handing money to homeless friend Frank, and worried he's back on drugs.

So have they had a new story line with the driver losing his badge and having to appeal to magistrates ?

Was actually wondering if it was supposed to be an HC, but if you watch the video on here, pause when the car moves off, and zoom in or something like that, the white plate on the back actually says Weatherfield Council, Private Hire and No 3298. (Suspect it could be a Mogo plate by the looks of it.)

So well done to the props department for attention to detail, although pity about the PFH.

Insufficient evidence - she'd actually hired the car previously and had just gotten out to see what the chap she was following was doing, so driver wasn't actually plying for hire.

Anyway, it wouldn't be that straightforward - he'd probably end up on drugs as a consequence of losing his licence, and hold up Rita at the Kabin with a sawn-off shotgun, before going on a drugs-fuelled rampage at the Rovers when he's refused a pint of mild.

And wasn't Ken Barlow a Weatherfield councillor AND editor of the local rag at one point?

Definite conflict of interest there if he was on the licensing committee

I don't think Ken was ever a councillor.

Ah, yes, that was maybe Deirdre I was thinking of, who stood as an independent. (And, of course, Alf Roberts.)

And there was some sort of conflict of interest when Ken tried to expose some kind of planning committee corruption/secrecy, and had an affair with the planning committee secretary in the process, which embarrassed Deirdre as a councillor and of course didn't do much for their marriage. Or something like that.

Quote:
Wendy met Ken professionally through her position as Planning Committee secretary for Weatherfield Council, when Ken was the owner of the Weatherfield Recorder. Wendy and Ken found that they shared their disdain of the secrecy and corruption of the Council and came up with a scheme where Wendy passed on details of Council plans to the Recorder, giving the paper an edge over the more popular Gazette free sheet. Ken didn't tell Deirdre the source of the leaks as she worked on the Council and he feared she would expose Wendy. When Deirdre herself came under suspicion of being Ken's mole, Ken printed information on council plans she wasn't aware of to absolve her, but when senior councillors pressurized Deirdre to find out the truth, Ken confessed to her on the condition that she didn't tell her bosses. Deirdre kept her promise but warned Ken and Wendy to stay away each other. Realising that Deirdre was serious, Ken and Wendy cut ties.
