Speaking of when to turn on and go live, two companies always spring to mind. One small company in Gratham installed and went live (against our advice) three days before Christmas. Another in Radiomanland turned on at 7:30 on a Friday night while we were still fitting cars.  Both lived to tell the story but as a rule, we say plan your turn on for early in the week and that way you can avaoid hickups at the busy times.

Good luck anyway and try to be patient with any small gremlins.

Bill

The answers easy!

We we told that because of your medical condition that requires you to take several pints of medicine each day, you really don't know what day it is anyway.

So we thought, what the heck let's go for it!

Bill

Tell the office - they can re-blank it.

The new system is set up from scratch - how would it know what addresses were blacklisted from the previous system without someone telling it? Rather than blaming the 'stupid bloody system' who would not know better without being told, put it down to 'pilot error'.

Remember - your mobile phone didn't know your mates phone number till you told it......

But are his mates liable to stab him in the throat and/or do a runner?

If an address has been barred, then there is usually a [edited by admin] good reason why. So sending a car to that same job is something that only software programmed by a non taxi/PH driver would do. [-X

This reminds me of my son when he got his first computer and he asked me it the computer knew how far it was to the moon. When I told him that it didn't automatically know that sort of thing and it would have to be entered in, he said whats the point.

Think of it this way. If you had a hundred or so banned addresses and another hundred or so addresses where a specific driver won't pick up from i.e. his ex wife, the computer can remember all this having been told just once. How many telephonists can do that?

Computers will only do what thev'e been told to do so don't blame the pilot, blame air traffic control for that one.

when i buy a new phone i take the little thing out of the back and put it in my new phone.
and guess what? it still has the same data.
but when auriga want tens of thousands for a new system. they cant transfer the data.
bit like this in aurigas office.

Try buying a phone on say Orange then inserting the sim in a new O2 phone. Wont work.

Basically your new system is very flexible but it will only do what you tell it to do. It sounds like it has been set up "out of the box" and you are very much having to correct things as you go. This is common in the industry. I have been responsible for the configuration of systems under both Auriga and Autocab as the office I work at changed from one to the other. Both were very basic and until after a few days tweaking. Both were fairly competednt when set up properly. With the latter I can honestly say that if it was left as installed without significant changes to parameters it would probably be in the bin!
I believe this is something system suppliers need to address - making sure the people buying the system know exactly what it is capable of and how to do it before going live rather than covering the basic set up and then diving head first in to a live run.
You would have had to tell the computer which zone was where , which backup zones to use , etc. Same with blacklisted addresses and phone no's - once told , it will store them. All this can be done before going live.
