Just looking for some rough numbers here. What do drivers usually take in per hour in Glasgow, taxi and/or PH.

i work PH driver and do ok but you will find it hard to get someone to tell you the truth about what they earn as no one wants Mr Tax man to find out and they will prob think you are Mr Tax Man
unless you know someone who does the job you will have a hard job getting the correct figures from anyone as they will not tell a stranger there buisness and there are a lot of people in the trade who just talk a lot of bull to look good i caught one boy telling someone he made £500 every night of the week which is pure crap

i was lucky that i had some pals who were in the job and they let me see there books so i had a good idea of what i could make.

it comes down to what days ,hours you work and time of year all have an effect on what you earn. some wks are better than others.

best contact some of the local firms and they might be able to help you.

there are many factors to earnings as has been pointed out. Firstly dont assume that because your neighbour is making 4-500 per week after expenses that you will nessecarily do the same, infact i doubt it strongly.
WHY - ??? There are many factors involed, time you work, areas you work, WHO THE CONTROLLER IS,,,yes ,true, it also depends who the contorller is at the office and there is a system of prefferential treatment in all taxi firms, especially the one im at lol.
But all also depends on yourself as a person, the hours you work directly influence what u earn, if u do silly hours its possible you can make a few quid, but its very tough.
The problems as i see it after 2 years in the trade is that newbies see loads of private hire firms asking for drivers, and see many different poeple working as phd, they then automatically assume that there is money to be made in the trade. Truth is, most quit after few months, i had no choice as i know nothing else lol, and even now i just scrape with help from working tax credits. This is the reality.
Does not matter to the managers of these firms whether they have enoough work to cover for all the drivers in their books. They will always advertise for more, as they make their earnings from the radios they rent out, regardless if u make a dime or not...cheers.

Hi all, thanks for the info and help. I know a couple of drivers, one in PH and the other a cabbie. The cabbie works in West Dumnbartonshire. All his work is centred around the small town of Clydebank. I will ask him for some figures although from what I gather (But not completely sure) his earnings will be completely different from that of a Glasgow driver.

The tariff goes up in 10p, instead of 20's.

But hopefully the meter will go up twice as fast

No I think its 10p every tenth of a mile(but to be honest I havent looked at the tariff sheet in ages. Haven't seen one in a cab for ages). A 3 mile journey will cost around £4.00 when it starts at £1.80. In Glasgow the same length of journey will cost around £7.00.

yip it is i make £600 a night then the alarm clock goes off
